The Union Ministry of Tourism is organising today the 12th edition of the International Tourism Mart at the UNESCO World Heritage site Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to highlight the tourism potential of the North Eastern region for both domestic and international audiences.   This event serves as a vital platform, bringing together tourism businesses and entrepreneurs from the eight North Eastern States-Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim-to foster collaboration and interactions among buyers, sellers, media, government agencies, and other stakeholders as this event is being held rotationally across these states highlighting the unique cultural, historical and ecological wealth of this region.   Akashvani’s correspondent reports that to highlight the tourism potential of the eight northeastern states, Union Ministry of Tourism organises the International Tourism Mart at Kohora Range of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.   Union Minister for Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will formally inaugurate the 12th edition of this annual event today morning in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar today expressed concern over the situation in West Asia, saying that India unequivocally condemns terrorism and hostage-taking. In his opening remarks at the MED Mediterranean Dialogues Conference in Rome, Italy, Dr Jaishankar emphasized that international humanitarian law cannot be disregarded and called for all countries to support a ceasefire. He stressed the imperative of addressing the future of the Palestinian people. Highlighting India’s stance, he reiterated that the country favours a two-state solution. The External Affairs Minister noted New Delhi’s growing concerns over the widening of the conflict. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three nation visit to Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana from 16th of this month. He will visit Nigeria at the invitation of Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from 16th to 17th November. This will be the first visit by a Prime Minister of India to Nigeria in 17 years. During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold talks to review the strategic partnership between the two countries and discuss further avenues to enhance the bilateral relationship. He will also address a gathering of the Indian community in the west african nation. Our Correspondent reports, India and Nigeria have been strategic partners since 2007 with growing economic, energy and defence collaboration. More than 200 Indian companies have invested over 27 billion dollars in important sectors in Nigeria. India and Nigeria also share a strong development cooperation partnership.         Prime Minister will travel to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil to attend the G20 Summit during 18th and 19th November. India is part of the G20 Troika along with Brazil and South Africa and has been actively contributing to the ongoing G20 Summit discussions. During the Summit, Prime Minister will put forward India’s positions on various issues of global importance and build on the outcomes from the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and Voice of the Global South Summits which were hosted by India in the past two years. Mr Modi is expected to meet several leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.         Prime Minister Modi will undertake a state visit to Guyana from 19th to 21st November. The visit to Guyana will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister since 1968. Last year, President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali visited India as the Chief Guest at the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Indore and was also awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. During the visit, Prime Minister will hold discussions with President Ali, meet other senior leaders of Guyana, address the Parliament of Guyana and address a gathering of the Indian diaspora.         In Guyana’s Georgetown, Prime Minister will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit and hold meetings with leaders of CARICOM member countries to further enhance India’s long-standing friendship with the region.

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) delegation in New Delhi yesterday. The delegation consisted of 11 officials of AIIB’s Board Directors visiting India for the Board group visit.   Appreciating the AIIB for its remarkable growth over the past nine years, the Minister underlined India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals and its demonstrated leadership in creating and harnessing the power of digital public infrastructure.   Mrs. Sitharaman stated that AIIB should broaden its investment in priority sectors of climate adaptation and resilience, infrastructure development, energy security, urban development and extend support for India’s next generation reforms. She also stressed upon the importance of continually incorporating finance plus and budget plus elements in AIIB’s project design and implementation.   The Union Finance Minister is also Governor on the AIIB Board. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has stressed that road safety should be given the highest priority while constructing pathways in the country to prevent road accidents and consequent deaths.     Mr. Gadkari was speaking after inaugurating the 83rd annual session of the Indian Roads Congress at Raipur in Chhattisgarh last evening. He said, efforts are being made to improve the shortcomings in road engineering and automobile engineering but defective detailed project report has created a major problem. Pointing at the gathering of officials and engineers, the minister said no tenders should be issued without carefully examining detailed project report. He said, improvement in road engineering will curb accidents and save lives     The Minister urged officials, experts, and contractors in the road and transport sector to adopt successful global practices and innovations, emphasizing the need for an integrated approach to road sector development Mr. Gadkari emphasised on production of bitumen and CNG from stubble in agriculture-dominated Chhattisgarh, arguing the move will cut dependence on fossil fuels and check pollution.     The Union Minister said that developing infrastructure will drive industrial growth, increase employment, reduce poverty, and make the country self-reliant. Over two thousand experts, scientists, engineers, and officials are participating in the four-day session, which will conclude on Monday. During the session, various topics related to road construction and road safety will be discussed.

The Australian government has announced plans to introduce legislation to ban children under the age of 16 from using social media, with penalties for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok if they fail to enforce it. The groundbreaking legislation comes amid the growing concerns over the impact of social media on young people’s mental health and safety. The initiative is designed to enhance online safety for young people and hold tech companies accountable. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at a press conference today confirmed the proposal, stating that the government aims to introduce the legislation in the Parliament this month. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting children online. However, it has not been specified how platforms should enforce the age limit. Communications Minister Michelle Rowland mentioned that companies could choose their own methods, possibly including biometric scans or age checks. While there will be no penalties for under-16s who access social media or for their parents, platforms that fail to take reasonable steps to block young users could face fines. This move is part of the government’s increased focus on regulating major tech platforms.
