In Maharashtra, the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar today tabled the Economic Survey Report 2023-24 in both houses of the state legislature today. According to the survey during 2023-24 the State economy is expected to grow at a rate of 7.6 per cent in line with the Indian economy. The report also states that during 2023-24, the ‘Agriculture & allied activities’ sector is expected to grow by 1.9 per cent, ‘Industry’ sector is expected to grow by 7.6 per cent and ‘Services’ sector is expected to grow by 8.8 per cent for the State. The State Economic Survey Report stated that the average share of the State in All-India nominal GDP is highest at 13.9 per cent. As per the advance estimates, nominal (at current prices) Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2023-24 is expected to be 40 lakh 44 thousand 251 crore and real (at constant 2011-12 prices) GSDP is expected to be 24 lakh 10 thousand 898 crore. Further, the percentage of fiscal deficit to GSDP is 2.8 per cent, revenue deficit to GSDP is 0.5 per cent and debt stock to GSDP is 17.6 per cent as per 2023-24. Apart from implementation of various schemes and farmer dedicated initiatives including irrigation schemes, the report mentioned that a compensation of more than 17 hundred crore was sanctioned to 22.74 lakh farmers affected by the untimely/heavy rains during January to October, 2023. The report further mentioned that a compensation of more than 2 thousand 443 crores was sanctioned owing to the scarcity situation during Kharif-2023.

Spectrum auction held to meet new spectrum requirement of Telecom Service Providers and for renewal of expiring licenses for continuity and growth of mobile services has concluded successfully. Ministry of Communications said all the available spectrum were put to auction. This year auction has seen activity in 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2500 MHz bands. Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia in a statement said, Spectrum auction 2024 was part of a continuous allocation process that is transparent, robust and progress.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has moved the High Court seeking a direction to stay all proceedings of the Justice L. Narasimha Reddy Commission. The commission was set up to inquire into Power Purchase Agreements made by the previous government and the construction of thermal power plants at Manuguru and Damaracherla. Mr. Rao has filed a writ petition challenging the constitution of the Commission. The state government constituted the one-man commission with retired High Court judge L. Narasimha Reddy to conduct a judicial enquiry into the decisions taken by the BRS government regarding power purchase from Chhattisgarh by DISCOMS and the construction of Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant at Manuguru and Yadadri Thermal Power Plant at Damaracherla by TS GENCO.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today introduced members of the newly constituted Council of Ministers in the Lok Sabha. Following the election of Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr. Modi introduced Union Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State (Independent Charges), and Ministers of State in the Lower House. Later, Speaker Om Birla recalled the imposition of Emergency on 25th June 1975, stating that the House strongly condemns it. He praised the determination of those who opposed the Emergency, fought against its atrocities, and upheld the responsibility of protecting democracy. Mr. Birla emphasized that the day would always be remembered as a dark chapter in India’s history. He noted that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency, which he described as an attack on the Constitution drafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The Speaker underscored India’s reputation as the world’s largest democracy, highlighting its values that support debate and democratic principles. During Mr. Birla’s remarks, Congress members protested by raising slogans against the government, accusing it of undermining the Constitution. The House also observed a moment of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the Emergency. Subsequently, the House adopted a resolution condemning the imposition of Emergency and was adjourned for the day.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav visited Lok Nayak Hospital and met Delhi Water Minister Atishi to inquire about her health condition. Ms. Atishi is currently undergoing treatment after her blood sugar level dropped on Monday during a hunger strike. The hunger strike, which began on the 21st of this month demanding more water from Haryana, was suspended following her hospitalization. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Delhi MP, Harsh Malhotra, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government, blaming them for the water crisis in the city. Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Mr. Malhotra alleged that despite adequate water availability, Delhiites are facing difficulties due to corruption and poor planning by the Delhi government. He further alleged a nexus between the AAP government and the tanker mafia.

Several newly elected MPs today took oath on the second day of the first session of 18th Lok Sabha. Prominent MPs who took oath from Maharashtra include Supriya Sule and Amol Khole of NCP (Sharad Pawar), Dr. Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena (Shinde group) as well as BJP MP Narayan Rane, and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT). From Punjab, former Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjeet Singh Channi, Harsimrat Kaur Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal took oath, besides Sambit Patra, Baijayant Panda, and Pratap Chandra Sarangi of BJP from Odisha. Congress MPs from Manipur, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam also took oath this afternoon. From Rajasthan, BJP MPs Om Birla and Dushyant Singh, and Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena, Amraram of CPI(M), and Hanuman Beniwal of RLP also took oath. The elected MPs from Tamil Nadu and Telenagna also made affirmations before the house. From Tamil Nadu, Dayanidhi Maran, TR Baalu and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of DMK, Sasikanth Senthil of Congress and K Gopinath also took the oath. From Telangana, BJP’s Arvind Dharmapuri, Congress’s Suresh Kumar Shetkar and AIMIMs’ Asaduddin Owaisi also took oath. Today, MPs took oath in a number of languages including  Punjabi, Marathi, Odia, Tamil besides Hindi, Urdu and English. The oath taking is underway in the house. Yesterday, a total of 266 MPs took oath and the remaining MPs are taking oath today. The election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled tomorrow, while the President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, yesterday performed Bhoomipujan for various development works worth Rs 547 crore in the Bhandara district. The various development projects include the first phase of the Water Tourism Centre, an underground drainage scheme, and the beautification of lakes at Bhandara and Pavani under the Amrit Yojana, among others. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that 102 crore rupees have been allocated to water tourism projects. He expressed confidence that these initiatives will significantly boost tourism in the district and create substantial employment opportunities. Along with water tourism on the Wainganga River in Bhandara district, the Chief Minister announced that he would approve the plan to increase water tourism in the Wainganga reservoir.
