We are pleased to announce that Raja Nag from the state of Tripura has been honored with the prestigious Rabindra Ratna Puraskar 2026 by the Veyil Foundation, a recognition that celebrates excellence, creativity, and impactful contributions to the world of literature. This distinguished accolade acknowledges Raja Nag’s remarkable achievements in English literature, particularly in the domain of novel writing, where his work has carved a unique and compelling niche. At the heart of this recognition lies his acclaimed novel, The Cage of Velvet Chains, a literary work that has captivated both readers and critics with its depth, emotional intensity, and psychological insight. The novel stands as a powerful testament to Raja Nag’s storytelling prowess—an intricate tapestry of narrative, character, and theme that explores the complexities of the human mind and experience. Through this work, he has demonstrated not only technical mastery but also a rare sensitivity to the subtleties of emotion, memory, and trauma. What sets Raja Nag apart in the literary landscape is his ability to seamlessly blend his professional background with his creative pursuits. As an accomplished orthopedic surgeon, he brings a unique perspective to his writing—one that is deeply informed by his understanding of human vulnerability, resilience, and healing. This dual identity enriches his narratives, allowing him to craft stories that are not only engaging but also profoundly introspective. His medical career, rooted in the physical restoration of the human body, finds a parallel in his literary work, which seeks to explore and, in many ways, mend the psychological and emotional fractures within individuals. The Cage of Velvet Chains exemplifies this synthesis of knowledge and creativity. The novel delves into themes such as memory, trauma, and resilience, inviting readers into a world that is as unsettling as it is thought-provoking. Raja Nag’s storytelling is immersive and cinematic, drawing readers into a psychological landscape where the boundaries between reality and perception blur. His characters are meticulously developed, each carrying the weight of their past while navigating the uncertainties of their present. Through their journeys, the author compels readers to confront uncomfortable truths—those often buried deep within the subconscious. One of the most striking aspects of Raja Nag’s writing is his willingness to engage with the darker facets of life. Rather than shying away from complexity, he embraces it, using his narrative as a medium to explore the intricacies of human behavior and emotion. This approach not only enriches his storytelling but also fosters a deeper connection with readers, who find themselves reflected in the struggles, fears, and hopes of his characters. In doing so, he elevates the psychological thriller genre, pushing its boundaries and redefining its potential within the Indian literary context. Moreover, Raja Nag’s work contributes significantly to the growing prominence of Indian English literature on the global stage. By crafting stories that are both culturally rooted and universally relatable, he bridges the gap between local and international audiences. His commitment to elevating Indian psychological thrillers is evident in his narrative style, thematic choices, and dedication to authenticity. He is not merely telling stories; he is shaping a genre and expanding its reach, ensuring that Indian voices continue to resonate across borders. The Rabindra Ratna Puraskar 2026 serves as a well-deserved recognition of Raja Nag’s contributions and a milestone in his literary journey. It highlights the impact of his work and underscores the importance of storytelling as a tool for reflection, understanding, and transformation. Awards of this stature not only honor individual achievement but also inspire a broader community of writers and readers, encouraging them to pursue excellence and embrace the power of the written word. Raja Nag’s journey as a storyteller is marked by a clear vision and an unwavering commitment to his craft. He writes with the intent to evoke lasting emotional responses, to challenge societal norms, and to encourage introspection. His narratives are not designed for passive consumption; they demand engagement, urging readers to think, feel, and question. This interactive quality of his work is what makes it truly impactful, leaving a lasting impression long after the final page is turned. As he continues to explore new ideas and narratives, Raja Nag stands as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring writers, particularly those who seek to balance professional careers with creative ambitions. His success demonstrates that storytelling knows no boundaries—that passion, dedication, and a willingness to explore the depths of human experience can lead to extraordinary achievements. In celebrating Raja Nag’s accomplishment, we also celebrate the evolving landscape of Indian literature—one that is increasingly diverse, dynamic, and globally relevant. His recognition with the Rabindra Ratna Puraskar 2026 is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the richness of contemporary Indian storytelling. As readers and critics alike continue to engage with his work, his influence is likely to grow, inspiring a new generation of writers to explore bold themes and innovative narratives. • US extends by one month waiver on sanctions for Russian oil transactions

The United States has extended by a month a waiver from sanctions to allow countries to buy petroleum products from Russia, days after it ruled out renewal of the special measure. According to an order issued by the US Department of the Treasury yesterday, the waiver now permits transactions involving Russian oil shipments that were already at sea on or before April 17 through May 16. Earlier, the US had granted an exemption from sanctions to India for buying Russian oil for a month beginning March 5. A few days later, a similar waiver was extended to several other countries, which ended on April 11. The Treasury clarified that the general licence does not authorise transactions involving individuals, entities, or joint ventures located in Iran, North Korea, Cuba, or certain regions of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would not be renewing the waiver for Russian oil and another for Iranian oil. The previous exemption had enabled approximately 140 million barrels of Russian oil already loaded onto vessels to reach global markets, at a time when oil prices were rising amid tensions linked to the ongoing US conflict with Iran.
