Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, has said New Delhi supports a negotiated two-State solution leading to the establishment of a sovereign Palestine living within secure and recognized borders, side by side with Israel in peace and security. He highlighted that India has provided over 175 million US dollars in assistance to the Palestinian people.
While delivering India’s statement at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Pledging Conference, Ambassador Harish noted that the situation in Gaza is fragile and India’s efforts are directed at addressing the humanitarian needs and aspirations of the Palestinian people. He noted that India had sent 150 tonnes of aid in the last three years alone.
Earlier yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with the Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. Mr. Modi reiterated the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the West Asia region and for safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce.
